Healthy Easter Hacks: Top 5 Tips for Staying on Track

Easter is a time for celebration but can also be a time of indulgence. With all the delicious treats and chocolates around, it's easy to over consume and end up feeling bloated and sluggish. But don't worry – you can still enjoy the festivities without sacrificing your health. Here are my top 5 healthy tips for surviving the Easter binge:

1) Make Vegetables Your Best Friend

One way to prevent overindulging in Easter treats is to make vegetables your best friend. You don't have to give up chocolate altogether. However, always ensure you line your stomach with fibre before going for the treats. Have a salad or eat some vegetables before any chocolate or hot cross buns. This way, you'll feel fuller and less likely to overeat.

2) Try My Healthy Hot Cross Bun Recipe

If you love hot cross buns, why not try a healthy version? As a hot cross bun aficionado, I've developed numerous scrumptious recipes. Among them, "Hot Cross Prebiotic Buns" holds a special place in my heart. These buns are mouth-watering, packed with additional nutrients, and free from gluten, dairy, and refined sugar. Try making a batch at home and enjoy them guilt-free!

3) Choose Dark Chocolate Over Milk Chocolate

The darker, the better, as dark chocolate has more phytonutrients and polyphenols, which are excellent for the brain and often contain less sugar. Dark chocolate also has a richer flavour, so you'll be satisfied with a smaller amount. Remember to choose high-quality chocolate with a high percentage of cocoa solids.

4) Fast Daily

Aim to fast every day, even during the holidays, regardless of where and what you're doing. Try a 16-18 daily fasting schedule with a 6-8 hour time-restricted eating window. When you do break your fast, break it with fibre, protein, and healthy fats before indulging in the Easter treats. This will help control your cravings and prevent overeating.

5) Drink Lots of Water

Staying hydrated is important for our general health and can help you avoid overeating during Easter. Swap fizzy drinks and sweetened beverages for water so you can have a little more dark chocolate instead! If you struggle to drink plain water, add fresh lemon or lime juice to still or sparkling water. Note that the bubbles in sparkling water can trick your brain into thinking it's not water at all.

By following these top 5 healthy tips, you can enjoy the Easter celebrations without sacrificing your health. Make vegetables your best friend, try a healthy hot cross bun recipe, choose dark chocolate over milk chocolate, fast daily, and drink lots of water. With these tips in mind, you'll be able to indulge in the Easter treats without overindulging.
